How can I dare to dream?
When the harsh realities of life force a rude awakening
And in the wake of my reverie
Leaves a shred of hope lingering,
Like the bittersweet taste of love,
The guilt in the aftermath of spontaneous sex…
Why should I keep the faith?
When all I see is the sinking sand of corruption
The blatant disregard for humanity
Where law abiding citizens have no rights
Except they are well connected in high society
A nation ensnared in the phony contraption that is democracy
Where children are not safe from the very laws
That ought to protect them
Where calumny and witch hunting are the only political
powers worth wielding
What is the essence of love?
When the only love that exists is the love of self
Where power, money and respect rule supreme
And love of country means nothing
To the man on the street who has no food to eat
What is love to a mother whose sons turn criminal to survive?
Whose husband gives off her daughter to a senator to thrive?
To a Narcissist official whose sole aim in government is
self aggrandizement?
How can I dare to dream?
That the uncertain future is not just one big ball of
catastrophe
Waiting to happen?
That my kids can go through life without compromising,
Without sin?
The reason why we are here is clear;
To err and forgive, to have and to give:
Err on the side of caution
Forgive without compunction
Give as much as you can
Your legacy will outlive your life span
